About 3 days ago Outlook 2002 and Outlook Express 6 started generating this
error spontaneously; and refusing to download my emails. By "spontaneously"
I mean I hadn't done anything in months to change my computer setup other
than to use it. There is a workaround in the MS knowledge base (Article ID
820669) but following it yields the same results. I do have several (3)
POP3 email accounts all of which were routinely accessible until this
problem began a few days ago. To test the multiple mail box theory of the
problem, I deleted all three and reinstalled one; still the same problem.
My Outlook .pst file is 700MB and I have 8GB of disk space free. I'm
running WinXP SP2 and OfficeXP Professional with all patches up to date.
Anybody have any ideas?

I am also having this exact problem, and I am baffled! My situation is
similar to what is described below, except I removed SP2 recently (after the
problem began). I am also up to date on spyware, adware, viruses, etc...
Ideas?

I just discovered the problem for me and its Zone Alarm. I use the ZA
Security Suite and the latest update 5.5.062.004 seems to break OL & OE. I
uninstalled ZASS and reinstalled last night and everything worked for a few
hours. After booting up this morning same old problem. I uninstalled again
and the problem went away. I'm using the XP firewall for now and
considering going back to the previous release that worked fine, or using
the ZA free version until a new release. ZA has a user's forum where a few
fixes are posted but none of them worked for me.

ZoneAlarm 5.5, since its release, has had some problems with XP SP2. Many
people I've encountered in Usenet find that ZoneAlarm V2.1.5 works perfectly
well in that environment. I'm unsure what advantages V5.5 has over V2.1.5,
if any, but many people with whom I've corresponded have uninstalled V5.5
and installed V2.1.5 for this very reason.
