Epson Stylus photo 950 ink problem

My Epson 950 occasionally deposits a blob of black ink on the edge of a
print.

There appears to be a lot of ink deposited on the foam pads beneath the
carriage. Is this normal? Surely there must be a limit to the amount of ink
that these pads can soak up over a period of time. Will they eventually need
replacing?

Any comments would be appreciated.

My 2200 does the same thing in the upper right corner of the image.
This happens with watercolor paper (I'm using brands recommended by
Epson). What to do? Occasionally it's on the upper part of the image
itself!
Thanks for any help.

I've only had this problem when I've had the paper thickness lever (right
hand side) on the wrong setting. Worth a check

Try to clean the gray rollers with water. Also the black plastic bellow the
ink path with plenty of water (and the piza wheels too). Don't afraid, there
isn't any electronic circuit bellow them, just a big sponge.
After cleaning pass some papers for dry the water.

Thanks for all your comments.
I am pleased this problem does not just affect me.
I will try cleaning as suggested. I now look for surplus ink pools on the
pads before printing, and soak this up with a tissue.
