Epson Perfection 1260 Scanning Problem

I was wondering if anyone had ever seen this, with any scanner?

Before the image is scanned the background is white...the minute a photo is
scanned there are large yellow lines coming down the whole flatbed screen on
the left side of the image as you look at it on the screen.

I bought the scanner from the Dell website in May of 2003 and had no
problems until about 3 months ago when it started doing this. Sometimes if
you rescan the image something like 12 times the yellow lines lessen...they
don't disappear all together because you can see them in the image scanned.

Anyone have ANY idea what may be happening?

Thanks!

You probably have dirty optics. More often than not it is either the Lamp
or the mirrors. The following site explains the cleaning of the HP 5p
scanner's mirrors with comments on other scanner models. Although Epson is
not specifically mentioned, the cure has worked for HP, Umax, and MicroTek
scanners.

Thank you very much Bill! I will give it a try tomorrow. Who ever took the
time to put that page together, it appears to be very helpful and it's
appreciated. :)

That would be me. Just something I found out by experimenting, and since I
had read a lot of messages asking about the same problem, I decided to
share it. I hope it helps. If it does the job, let me know by e-mail so I
can add the Epson 1260 to the list. It would help if you included any
unusual steps that you had to take to get to the mirrors.
