i have an epson cx3810 all-in-one printer/scanner/copier. when i either turn it on or open the scan software, my task manager says that my cpu is at 100%. when i close the epson scanner software, the cpu goes back down to normal. a file called ESCNDV.EXE, which is the scanner software, is around 98% of the CPU, according to task manager.

any ideas?

Don't use their software ... all you need is the drivers and a different scanning frontend, e.g. Photoshop Elements or Imaging for Windows, instead of EPSON Scan.

Uninstall re-install may help.
