entire network item is missing from my network places

I am running XP Pro with SP1 and current security fixes connected to a
Windows 2003 Active Directory domain.
I have recently lost the entire network item under my network places.
I suspect that this may have been done via a GPO but have not been able to
determine what settings in the GPO would have disabled this feature.
Anyone any ideas?

If this has been disabled through a GPO, ask your systems administrator
about it. Only he would be able to change it anyway since this would
not be a local machine issue, but rather coming from the domain server.

Doug, In my local GPO it is was set to Unspecified so I set it to Disabled
and ran gpupdate and entire networks is back again.
If it was set to Enabled in a domain GPO it would have made not difference
would it?
Any ideas how this could have come about?
Regards, Major.

Normally, if this policy was enabled at the domain or OU level it would
prevail over your local policy setting. However, it may be possible to
change this behavior with loopback processing. See:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;231287

More likely, is the possibility that this poilicy was enabled at the domain
or OU level and then disabled, but the change was not applied during
background refresh. See:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;305293

Also, the resultant set of policy tool may be of some use to you - see:
