Empires Dawn of the Modern World can't start up!?

K

Krumfly

I tried starting it up several times but the game won't
work. I get an error message saying "Acess Denied, login
with Administrator privileges." I am the administratror
and I installed it under the administrator account! How
can I get this game to work?

Hi Krumfly,

Uninstall the game, and then reinstall it with the account
that you usually use your computer with, but give that
account Administrator privileges during this process.

It may be possible to switch the account you usually
use the computer with back to a Limited User account
afterwards, and still be able to play that game with it. :)

I have tried that, making a limited user account, but the
game will just not work. I don't know what else to do. I
should have all of the privileges on XP because I am the
administrator but the game still thinks different.

Could it be a problem with my graphics card? It's a
radeon ati 9000 pro?

Hi Krumfly,

Wow! After 4 weeks I had to look into my archives to find
your original post! :) I've pasted it into this reply to keep
the thread orgainised, and help anyone else reading this who
may have a helpful suggestion to add as well.

This is not an issue with your Video card. It's an issue about
permissions and access to the Windows system and registry.

You may have no choice but to use an Administrators account
to install and play that game. To test this theory, install the
game on a friends computer using the method in my previous
post. That will define which path we need to follow. :)

My friend has windows Me, not the best but I will try the
game and see if it works. What exactly am I trying to
prove? This "Access Denied" has happened to this game,
Prince of Persia, and Call of Duty. NOne of them will
allow me to play because they think I am not the
administrator. I have tried creating a limited user
account, installing the game, tried to play it and
switched back to my normal account, which is the
administrative account to play and still the same
message, "Access Denied." Do I need to make another
administrative account. I did try that too, I got tips
in another support message saying that creating a new
Administrative account can help but it didn't. Is there
anything I can do in the control panel?

Hi,

Testing on a Windows Me system won't help determine
if the game is at fault, which is not the case based on the
extra information you provided below stating that none of
your games allow you to play. Since you already tried
creating a new administrators account and that didn't work,
please explain more about this "Access Denied" message:
At what point to you receive the message, and does it
indicate what you're denied access to?

Please quote this post in your reply, thanks. :)

The message is very short and I did several tests to see
when it comes up in the scheme of things. In prince of
persia, the loading screen, a box that simply
says 'prince of persia' will appear for five or six
seconds, then my regular desktop... two seconds later,
the error message: Titled "Access Denied" Log in with
administrative privilages. That is it. All it indicates
is that I am denied access upon entering the game, not in
the game but before it senses the CD in the drive. it's
the same for call of duty, and it's the same for empires,
dawn of modern civ. Empires and Call of Duty are made by
activison, Prince of Persia is made by Ubisoft. And one
more thing. I sent a dxdiag to the support team at
Activsion support, and they said it was my ati driver,
which I beleive is wrong, and they said that the game
would work with the 3.7 driver of my graphics card.
Well, I went all the way and went with the latest driver
for XP, I forget the name, and the blasted game still
doesn't work. Could it be Open GL?

Sorry about the two different replies, but in addition,
Prince of Persia, after the game has been aborted,
another screen pops up saying that the program has been
manually aborted.

Jimmy S.

Hi,

Like I said, this is not a video card driver related issue in my
opinion. In fact, it reminds me of an obscurity with the 1311
error that sometimes pops up. I would not be surprised if the
answer to your problem would be to as *simple* as this <g>:

Change the Local CD Rom Access Security Policy by download the Reg Fix
from: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm Line 264 / 2nd Col.
titled: Access Denied - CD Rom, ... Doubleclick the Reg Fix after you DL it
for it to install. If you prefer a manual method let me know. Good luck! :)

I'm so sorry but the registry download did not work.
Prince of Persia had the same errors.

J

Jimmy S.

Did the registry patch not install, or did it install
but not correct the problem even after a reboot?

No, the registry patch installed fine, it didn't correct
the problem though. What if I tried a computer format.
I know it's not the prettiest thing to do, but I could
move my music data to my other computer on my home
network so as not to lose anything. Then when I
reinstalled windows, wouldn't everything be on their
default/normal settings?

J

Hi,

Yes, that's a good idea, and you can reinstall windows over itself
to prevent losing your data and programs. Here's how.

Unplug from your Internet connection, and then repair Windows
using this method: http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

Afterwards, boot up your system, turn on your XP Internet Firewall,
plug back into your Internet connection and install all Critical and
