Email addressed to one account going to the wrong account

Tom

We use Cox as our ISP. My computer runs Office 2003 and Outlook 2003. My
son's computer uses Vista and Windows mail. Most of my mail addressed to my
email address goes to his inbox and not mine. Cox is unable to help me
because they do not support Outlook only Outlook Express and Windows Mail.
To the best of my knowledge this is not a problem for my wife who runs Office
2003 and Outlook 2003. My email address is the primary for our family
account. I think the problem is with how I have configured my son's email
account in Windows Mail. I would sure appreciate any help available.
THANKS!!!

Tom,
It appears that Cox is giving one primary email acct, and "alias" accts of
the primary acct as additional email addresses.
1. You will need to change the settings in your son's Windows Mail
application, for his Cox acct, to leave messages on the server.
2. You will need to create some message rules in your son's application of
WindowsMail, so that only his mail gets downloaded onto his computer.
3. If you already have the Cox email acct on your PC, you will need to
change the settings to also leave messages on the server, but you should
also set it to delete messages from the server after XX amt of days.
4. You will need to create message rules in your application of Outlook, to
not download messages that are sent to your son's email address.
***You will need to create message rules on both machines to filter out
messages such as news letters, usually based on the FROM: Line or Subject:
Line. And placed them before or on top of the rule mentioned in steps #2 and
#4.
5. You need to check with COX ISP, and find out exactly if the email
accts/addresses that they have given you are individual accts, or "aliases"
of the primary acct. And if you can change the service to have individual
accts.
6. Depending on the age of your child you might consider allowing him to
have a GMAIL or AOL Mail acct, both can be configured using POP/STMP
servers, and will work in OUTLOOK/OExpress/WindowsMail.

Rich,
Thanks for your note. I checked with Cox and we have individual accounts.
For some reason my son's Windows Mail had two cox email accounts, both his,
installed. I deleted both and reinstalled his account. On my computer I did
the same for me and it all seems to be working now. Thanks for mentioning
the "ailias configuration." I will keep that for future reference.
