dvd-rom cd-rom problem

Hi,
I have recently installed a TORiSAN DVD-ROM DRD-U624 onto my Dell laptop. I
installed a dvd decoder to play dvd's, but even before this nomusic cd's or
data cd's would play. It would just say "insert disc in drive"
Please help since I can't just watch dvd's all day, and not read any cd's

Thanks, but I already looked through most of the tutorials and help's, I also
went online to find drivers, but mine is the newest one, so no problem there.
However I was wondering if maybe a reinstall of windows xp would help only as
a last resort. The thing that really gets me is that I have a TORiSAN DVD-ROM
DRD-U424 on my NEC P.C. and it works just fine. But thanks for your help
