DVD Playback Restrictions Don't Work on Unknown DVDs in WMP 11

I'm using Vista Beta 2, Build 5384, Windows Media Player 11.0.5384.6167. I
have configured the Administrator account to block playback of DVDs with
higher than a G rating via the DVD options tab. This works perfectly when the
media is recognized. However, if I insert a DVD that is not recognized by WMP
11, this feature fails. This is true even when I use the Find DVD Info option
to locate the exact movie in question so its chapters, etc. show up in WMP 11.

This is a significant weakness in the DVD Playback Restrictions feature. How
soon will this be fixed?

I can't help you with your original question, but I'm curious as to how you
got Vista to even play DVD's.

I have beta 2 but I keep gettting the error: "Windows Media Player cannot
play the DVD because a problem occurred with digital copyright protection".
It's a legit DVD bought from Best Buy also.

I also have installed Nvidia's Purevideo codec which worked fine in XP with
Media Player 11, but doesn't seem to work with Vista. So even uninstalling
it, it still doesn't work.

So my question is, what codec are you using to access your movies via Vista
and Media Player 11?

What codec/decoder are you using with Media Player 11?

I use the Nvidia PureVideo codec and it won't play my movies on DVD, and I
get an error window saying: "Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because
a problem occurred with digital copyright protection". Doesn't matter what
DVD I try to play either. Oh, and it worked flawlessly in XP.

Even removing PureVideo I get the same error.

I did not encounter any problems playing DVD
movies in either Media Player or Media Center.
I did not have to load and codes. I just
inserted the DVD in the drive an Vista asked
whether the movie should be played in Media
Player or Media Center. I tried both and they
both worked out of the box.

I agree with ksgant, use VLC media player as it is a free download and works
with vista well. I have the same problem. I have not managed to watch any
sort of dvd fromn within media player or media center which is a pain cause
the gui of them both are nice.

Hi try downloading DVD+CSS free or ANY DVD as It`s something to do with the
region settings. I installed a trial of DVD+CSS and sudenly I can play DVDs
in media player.

Try a software that gets rid of DVD Region setting or something like DVD+CSS.
