DVD Drive will not read (or even recognize) DVD-ROMs

Can you help with this? I'm at wits end!
The DVD drive will not read/recognize DVD-ROMs in the drive. All other
CD/DVD types work/play fine (i.e. CD, CD-ROM, DVV Video; commercial or
copied). The DVD-ROMs are new and work in all other DVD drives I tried. The
computer manufacturer replaced the drive and I still have the same issue.
Then I reloaded Windows XP, same issue. Now what do I do? This a new computer
(1 month).

The dvd codecs must be installed in order for it to be used. Sometime
this is just a slip up from the manufacturer as CD codecs are aut
installed by XP. Not the DVD codecs

You should have been given some burning reading dvd programs like Ner
or Power DVD or Sonic's My DVD with the drive. Just install tha
software and it should be up and reading/ writing DVD

Thanks for a reply. MyDVD was preloaded with the computer and I also downloaded Power DVD to play my DVD-Rs that Sopnic couldn't handle.
It's only my DVD-ROM (games and reference SW) that don't work. Any other
ideas?
