DVD Burner not recognizing Blank DVD

Dave

Is your burner a -R, +R or +/-R? Some drives burn to -R media, some to +R
media and some will do either. You'll need to make sure the media disks
your using are compatible with your burner. Also, what software are you
using to burn it?

Hi I am pretty much clueless on how to Burn anything, I just bought a
Metal Gear Sony Portable 16x dvd burner external usb2.0, when I tried
to burn a CD everything worked fine, however when I tried to burn a DVD
(first time) it would give me a message that the CD in drive is either
full or not a writeable CD, but it is, it is a DVD-R Memorex and it is
blank I never have had any type of Burner/writer so this is my First
time, can some one please help me? I use Windows XP. Thank you

XP has no built in DVD burning software so it cannot do this. You must use
third party burning software like Nero or Roxio.

Hi dave,
the Burner is DVD-Rom, DVD+/-RW, CD-Rom, CD-RW.
I am not sure if I use a software, but what I do is, for example I want
to burn a Movie, I have a copy of the file saved on my harddrive, and
when I clik on it once it asked me to copy to cd, and I press ok, Then
I go into "my Computer" on my desktop, and select my E: Drive in which
the file shows in there and says this file is now ready to be burned on
CD when I click on that it opens another window, where I can enter a
name or leave it with the date that automaticley populates the box, and
click ok, at that point I get the error message that the CD is either
full or not writeable.
Thank you

Did your new burner come with any CD/DVD software? Did you install it?
