Dual Core/Core 2 Duo vs. 3.0+ Ghz

I have been searching for PCs and can't decide whether I should go
with one that sports 3.2-3.8 Ghz or one that has Dual Core 1.8-2.4 Ghz
or one that is Core 2 Duo at ~2.0 Ghz. Where do they match up? Which
will be best for the long run? Is there a good webpage that will show
me how they line up to one another? Thanks.

Core 2 Duo at 2.4 GHz is a good one at low cost. E6600.

Core 2 Duo at 2.4 GHz is a good one at low cost. E6600.

I just build a new system using the C2D 6420 processor with a Gigabyte
N650SLI-DS4 mobo and 2x1gb of Patriot DDR2-6400 Ram.
Running next to this I have an AMD 64x2 3800 Processor with 2x1gb of DDR3200
Ram on an Abit mobo..............want to guess which one is quicker??

I can only tell you that from what I've read, the Core 2 Duo's
outperform the higher speed PentiumD's. I run a PentiumD (3.0 gHz) at
home, and have been eyeballing the Core 2 Duo 2.4 for a while now.
Good luck!

If I happen to build a system using a 2.4 C2D, I'll be sure to post my
opinion as to the performance.

3.0g pentium 4 to C2D E6600 -- the new system is much faster.............it
can actually do work the other could not -- play HDDVD content..

to be fair I also upgrade the motherboard and the video card to those that
support PCIe versus APG

video card is better, but there is not a major speed difference in practical
terms between PCIe and APG for the video -- it just that all the need good
card are PCIe not APG

bottomline the C2D are pretty darn good chips, but other things must be
thought about as well
