Driver on XP Disc does not work for HP PSC 500 Scanner

There is no Windows XP driver available from HP on the
web for the PSC 500. I need to use my scanner. The XP
disc does not load this driver properly, from the sound
of it, many other people are experiencing scanner driver
issues as well. As a network admin, I have tried
everything. I have a work around to print - but I must
disable and enable Plug and play, each boot, to get the
printer and PC talking on the ECP port.

Does Microsoft have a working scanner driver for the HP
PSC 500?

In the BIOS, change the LPT port to be EPP, rather than ECP. I've seen this
work on a number of HP printers, so chances are fairly high it will work on
an HP scanner as well.
