dragging mouse in one window, mouse ends up in another window??

I'm running XP Pro SP2.

When I drag in a scrollbar - and sometimes other areas of a program - the mouse
can end up getting control of another window (NOT the one it is currently active
in) - so that the window I was scrolling is no longer being scrolled - but some
window behind it is getting the effect of the mouse.

I've used win2000 as my primary operating system for years - and I've never seen
this happen.

It happens several times a day on XP.

How can I resove this?

Is the mouse you are using using the basic windows drivers, or did you
install some software with your mouse? For exampe, are you using a Microsoft
intellipoint or something like that? I know a couple of mice I've had have
had the option of 'activating' a window by just mousing over it. It is
probably an option that is definable throught control panel>Mouse or through
the software installed with your mouse. Perhaps you have the time on that
set too low, or maybe you want to disable it? Check through the mouse
properties in the control panel.

I'm using Logitech mouse drivers - but I've always used Logitech - and never
seen any problems like this.

The mouse is a 3 button, no fancy mouse wheels.

I don't have 'activation follows mouse' turned on.

What I think may be happening is that the operating system (or mouse driver) is
taking too long to realize that I have left clicked and am dragging.

If I click and hold position for a second, and then drag very quickly, it
doesn't ever seem to 'lose' the mouse - but I don't tend to work that way - I
move quickly.
