Downgrade from XP Pro to XP Home Edition

I need to Downgrade from Windows XP Professional to
Windows SP Home Edition because Dell won't give me
support unless I am using the original OS. Will it work
properly if I install Win XP Home Edition as if it is an
upgrade?

Hi

If you need to 'downgrade' to XP Home Edition, you will need to reformat your hard disk/partition and then re-install XP HE. You install XP HE over the top of XP Pro.

If you do decide to go this route, don't forget to backup all your valuable data files first.

Betty;
Dell (same with other computer manufacturers) will not support
anything but the original configuration, this is true.
You could take the information from others and revert back to Windows
XP Home or you could post the specific problem in the appropriate
Windows XP newsgroup and see if someone can help.

Greetings --

The only way to change from WinXP Pro to WinXP Home is to format
the drive and start over. There is no supported downgrade path or
technique.

Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the
order of boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)

Of course, you'll want to back up any important data before
starting.
