DOS & Modems

Help... Am trying to run a dos based program that uses a
Hayes smartmodem 1200. It ran fine on Win 3.1, 95, 98.
Under XP the program manages to run but not too smoothly.
It runs at 1/2 screen. The big problem is that XP's
driver for the modem (generic 1200) does not seem to
control very well. Is there a driver for Hayes Smartmodem
that works with XP? I must use this program and the modem
as it is specialized.

If I remember well modems in Dos didn't use a driver but were commanded
by settings in the communication software itself.
Maybe Windows XP doesn't like this.
Even if the modem would work with the right driver in Windows XP itself
I doesn't mean you could use it with your old software in XP Dos.

Food for thought. Do not upgrade to a hardware and software that is not
going to run old, old, outdated equipment and software. Just keep an old
machine around for this.
