Does anyone think the new pigment printers from Canon or HP are any good?

Are the new pigment printers from HP or Canon any good. How do they
compare with Epson?

The Pro9500 is not shipping yet. I hope to see many reviews comparing
the Pro9000 dye against the Pro9500 pigment. Early information that is
very general claim that the dye is much more vivid and the colors are
brighter and more saturated. They also say that (while there are no
definitive conclusions) the new Canon dye inks are narrowing the gap of
the differences in longevity but the pigment still is more resistant to
fading.

But the how much of each has not been stated. I am sure it will be
difficult to see many groups of photos (one from each printer) of many
subjects printed on each to compare.

But the very expensive IPF5000 (a pigment printer with new Canon pigment
ink) is a hands down winner over all of the Epson printers in its class
showing better results and greater speed.

I have an HP B9180. I got it because my Canon i9100 did a terrible job
on B&W. The HP does a great job. It also does a great job on color.
To test it I printed the Digital Dog test print and compared it to my
calibrated video display. There are subtle differences I attribute to
reflected light vs. transferred light, but they are incredibly close.
The HP's prints are actually slightly better than prints from the i9100.

I like that the HP claims prints will last 200 years or more. Who
really knows? Having seen Kodak prints fade on the wall in as little as
six months, I will be happy if I only get 50 years! By then I expect to
be long gone.

You can order a free sample print for the HP B9180 (and other HP
printers) from
http://www.hp.com/sbso/productivity.../IPG/VAcontent/colorprinters/Orderprintsample

Notice that this HP Associate tells you to get a sample form HP but did
not inform you that you can get one from Canon.

While on the topic of HP I worked on a machine yesterday that was a new
HP machine. IT had factory installed games and some of the games has an
Adware Wild Tangent Software (formally GATOR) factory installed on the
machine. I uninstalled all this stuff including Wild Tangent ignoring
the warning that the games would not play without Wild Tangent.

Why would a company make computers preinstalled with that garbage.

Why would they sell new printers with only a sample cartridge of ink
unlike Canon who sells their printers with a full ink carts.

Why does this poster sign his posts with MS MVP Printing/Imaging and
provide favorable HP promotions and not disclose he is collecting a
pension from HP since he retired from there.

One needs to know who is affiliated with who around here before relying
on advice and recommendations.

I have a Canon and use Canon ink but I learned how to bleed all of the
color out and learned the appropriate settings for BW. They came out
real good. Now with that said I am quite sure that the Epson 2400 and
the soon to be released Canon Pro 9500 will even do better.

That's a very good question. I have yet to see the output from Canon's
pigment ink printer(s).

I recently received some print samples from HP, but haven't had time to
look the over properly.
