documnet format gets corrupted

I'm using word 97sr2 with ms98.4.6.222a (full oem).
For sometime when I save a document and then open it
later,
much of the document gets corrupted. It doesn't seem to
happend every time but often. The I seemed to lose
changes to a document.
At first I though the automatic save was doing it, so I
turned it off. Then I fgured a virus but Norton showed
nothing.
Any idea what is going on and how to fix it?
I tried migrating to XP but not enough memory.

Hi Steven,

Do you have "Allow fast saves" turn on (Tools>Options>Save)? If so, disable
it.

Is it possible that you're opening the document as text? Make sure that
"Files of type" in Word's File Open dialog is not set to "Recover Text from
Any File."
