.dll files won't uninstall

I was able to run one scan on XP home edition machine but
then had a critical error 101. Was advised to Add/Remove,
then reinstall. Remove failed with this msg "HRESULT
2147220473". In total, 7 .dll files "failed to register".
New install failed because of same files. What should I
do?

In XP Home, please try this in safe mode, logged in as "administrator"

You may need to manually start the Windows Installer (via the command:

net start "windows installer

and hitting enter, at a command prompt.

Tried net start at command prompt in safe mode but system
says "cannot be started in safe mode"

Sorry about that. I need to get an XP Home VPC running so I can test
properly.
Will see if I can come up with a better idea later--pressed for time at the
moment.

How many users are there on this system?

Do you know which user account was originally used to install Microsoft
Antispyware?

G

Thanks for the tip about original user who installed MSAS.
I had to log on to that profile, repair MSAS and run.
Seems other users cannot run from their own profile -
true? I still get error msg from my profile.

I was hoping that would be the issue. I don't have any nice neat matrix
description of what happens in the mix of XP Pro, XP Home, Administrator,
Limited Users, etc.

Suffice to say that there are a number of things broken, and the current
beta only states that it works for administrators.

Yes, everybody agrees that's not the way it needs to be--and work is under
way to make it work in a defined predictable way for both multiple users on
the same machine, and users with varying permission levels. A build with
these changes checked in has not yet been released, though.

So--stay tuned is about the best I can tell you.
