hello, does anyone know what this error code stands for?
Browsed through the Knowledge base and Google with no
luck. W2000 can not recognize a previously functioning
(within the same OS and machine) hard drive; BIOS detects
it with no probs.

same problem.. The disk looks fine, I can boot from cd and see the c
drive.. but when I boot normally, same message disk i/o error. Thanks.

Hi,

I found this:
Disk i/o error with faster CPU
http://www.experts-exchange.com/Operating_Systems/Win2000/Q_20862493.html

It has a similar error message: "I/O error : status 00000400". Which
indicates that Windows 2K might have spat the dummy in response to
changed hardware configurations..

The article in turn points to this MS Knowledge Base article:
How to move a Windows 2000 installation to different hardware
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;249694&Product=win2000

The reason for my interest is that my partner just this morning got
this error and asked me to look it up.. don't know if it solves
anyone's problem, but I hope it is relevant.

Good luck!

Rob
:)
