When XP tries to load from a Seagate SATA HDD on an Abit IC7-Max3
MB it will not boot unless the install CD is in the CDrom drive. I have it
set to boot to this SATA drive first, Onboard SATA is selected in the
Advanced BIOS features, Hard Disk is the first boot device, OnChip
serial ATA is in the Enhanced Mode, IDE Bus Master is Enabled, and I
flashed to the latest Bios. I did load the drivers for the Intel onboard
SATA controller prior to doing the XP Pro install.
Here what the boot sequence reads:
"Verifying DMI Pool Data......"
"Boot from CD :"
"DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER"
I even removed the command to enable other devices to boot and it
still looks for the cd first.
Now check out how strange this is:
I also have a WD IDE HDD connected to IDE1 as well as the Seagate
SATA HDD connected to SATA2 controller. Each has XP Pro installed.
If I change the HDD boot preference to the WD HDD first and the
Segate HDD second, it boots and sees both XP installs (like a dual boot
environment). I can then select the XP on the Seagate drive and it boots
without a problem. It doesn't look for the CD rom. However, if I place
the Seagte HDD as the first HDD to load it will not boot and gives the
CD error message in the above post.
I can't figure this out for the life of me.
Any help would be appreciated.
