Diacritical marks

How can I put diacritical marks on Roman characters in Word 2003? It would
be nice to put standard marks indicating pronunciation (as in the
dictionary), but I especially need to be able to put dots under characters,
e.g. under the rsn in Krsna. These characters are not, as far as I can tell,
included in the Insert -> Symbol menu. Thanks.

You can surely find them in a "large" Unicode font such as Arial Unicode MS
(if nothing else, you can use the Combining Diacritical Marks). Failing
that, see http://home.earthlink.net/~wordfaqs/Overbar.htm for another
approach.

For standard emphasis marks (dots under characters), you could also use the
built-in functions:
Selection.Range.EmphasisMark=wdEmphasisMarkUnderSolidCircle
Selection.Range.EmphasisMark=wdEmphasisMarkNone

The "Extended formatting" toolbar has a button (DotAccent) to add/remove
emphasis marks above characters.
There's also a built-in button (CommaAccent) with a nice button face for
adding/removing comma accents (´) above letters.
I haven't found it in Tools>Customize, but you can add it to the menu bar
with
CommandBars("Menu Bar").Controls.Add Id:=2806
and then drag it to some toolbar or menu holding down the Alt-key, or drag
it off to remove it.

(Learned about those commands from Suzanne, btw)

Klaus

I don't think you learned about them from me because I'm pretty sure I heard
about them from you (and then promptly forgot them).
