Desktop icons show on desktop even when "Show Desktop Icons' is not checked

I don't like having my icons show on my desktop, I use my
startbar for that. I like my wallpaper to be free of
icons. So I uncheck the "Show Desktop Icons". But now
the icons are appearing again. The checkmark isn't next
to the "Show Desktop Icons" but my icons are there! I
can fix it temporarily by checking and rechecking it but
moments later they reappear! What is going on? I have
all the latest updates from Windows and all my virus
software updates.

Tim,

Open Registry Editor (regedit.exe)
** Backup the registry first using file export option **

Goto the following location:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advance
d
In the right-pane, set the value for "HideIcons" to 1.

Goto this location:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explore
r
Set the value for "NoDesktop" to 1

Restart Windows. The desktop icons are hidden.
