Desktop Backgrounds on Dell

I got a new Dell 8600 and formatted it. When I reloaded
Windows, I didn't have the desktop backgrounds of city
photos and other new things, just the standard ones
everyone has seen with xp (moon, etc). Are these on the
cd, and if so where? I searched all my cds for the word
city with no success. Thanks

I bought a new house and had it gutted and new furniture and
appliances installed. But my old pictures aren't hanging on
the walls anymore, why not?

Search your restore cds by extension .scr not name. The file name isn't
always the same name as what the screensaver is called. For example, the 3D
Flower Box that comes with Windows is actually a file called ssflwbox.scr

It was just eye candy. It looked nice.

does the .scr apply to pictures? I'm pretty sure the
background was a .jpeg

Background pictures are usually bmp or jpg. In fact you can
use any picture or pictures you want. Just look for
pictures on the web and download them. They can be in any
folder you want, but if you want them to show in the
selection for backgrounds, save the picture (or a copy)
there. C:\WINDOWS\Web\Wallpaper

You got a NEW PC from Dell and formatted it??? Who told you to do that????
If you did it, you better read the accompanying brochures before you even LOOK at
the keyboard again. If soneone else told you to do that, SHOOT him/her!!! Did
you contact Dell tech support before you create an expensive doorstop.

A NEW computer? Think. Why should one have to?

I just had to format & reinstall Windows XP Home on a brand new, out of the
shipping box, Dell due to the Sasser Worm. Funny how they swear there's NO
WAY it could have gotten the worm from them yet it was shipped with it.
There had been no internet connection made on the pc in the 3 days it took
for the worm to ruin the machine. Calling Dell support was a total waste of
time & money. My mother paid for the extended support plan with in-home
service yet I got someone on the other end of the phone who knew less about
computers than I do. That person told me it must be the worm and to
reinstall Windows. 23 minutes of hold time, hung up on by their phone
service, 18 minutes more of hold time, 2.5 minutes of actual conversation.
They're idiots.

that is not the point. the point is you don't need to contact dell or any
other mfg. to format your hard drive. of course i would not do it because i
know better but that doesn't give you the right to critisize the way you
did.

Dell technical support does not have a very good reputation. I don't really
think it was shipped with the worm however. Did you get it girectly from Dell?
If you went on the 'net to register with Microsoft, that's when you got the
sasser. Have you never been on the net?

Since when do you need a 'right' to critisize?

It was my mother's machine and she didn't even have internet access at the
time. I can assure you that it was never online, not even for registration
purposes, to get the worm. The computer was ordered & shipped directly from
Dell.

Why should I not have? Everything I need to get it going
again is on the cds. They install way too much crap from
the factory.

Here's a link to the site that has the Dell Backgrounds.
I did the same thing once and emailed Dell with a request for a link
to their backgrounds and this link is what they sent me. Hope you find
one you like.
