I was having this problem and this website came up first on my internet search, so I thought I'd add a post in case it will help someone.

I found the instructions below at:http://forums.maddoktor2.com/index.php?showtopic=1996&st=20
And someone else found them at: http://www.theeldergeek.com/repair_ie6.htm

The link I used had 2 options, but this first one worked for me.
It took about half an hour and I needed the Microsoft Windows XP CD-ROM...

From the Start menu, select Run.
In the Open field, type sfc /scannow (Note: There is a space between sfc and /scannow)
Select the OK button.
Follow the prompts throughout the System File Checker process.
Reboot the computer when System File Checker completes.

Some background on my problem if it helps...I don't know what caused the problem, but the answerer above said it's caused by corrupted files (I think). I first got the error when I opened a folder with pictures...I was in the middle of transfering picture files from a USB drive to a CD in order to free up space on the USB drive, in order to free up space on my hard drive :). I had four folders copying at one time, so I don't know if that contributed to the error. Previous to that, I was attempting to move a large DVD file from "My Documents" to the USB drive because a few files from there were coming up as "files that cannot be defragmented." And again, I don't know if it's related, but previous to that, I was defragmenting in Safe Mode and disabled a Dell support program from the start up menu. I have a Dell Dim 4700 with Windows XP and Int Expl. 7.
