Defender message "application failed to start"

Defender downloads ok but when I try to run it I get the following message.
"This application failed to start because msvcr80.dll was not found.
Reinstalling the application may fix the problem". I have reininstalled ten
times and keep getting the same massage.

In my opinion M$ should forget about antispyware technology. It hasn't
got the knowledge or expertise and it is trying to operate in a
non-monopolistic market.

Controlling Windows and Office packages is one thing but trying to
control another product in which one hasn't got the expperience or the
motivated staff is completely another thing.

WD is crap and it has been a beta product for nearly 1 year now. There
is no sign of this product becoming a Gold Standard in the near future.

Delete c:\program files\windows defender\MSASCui.exe.manifest
