data encryption error with remote desktop

Rod

I am having problems with my network at home. i am
running XP home on one and XP pro on the other.
I have remote Desktop set up correctly and can connect to
the home machine after sending an invite but after
connecting to the Pro machine from the home machine I get
a "data encryption" error message and get disconnected. I
am connecting through my Linksys with forwarding enabled
to port 3389.
The reason I am conecting is for testing only. Both pC's
are connected to the router and I'm using a static IP on
the wan side.
Any ideas as to why I am getting this error message.
Thanks.

Try looking in the event log service found under start>control panel>admin tools>event viewer>sytem and you should be able to find some clues from there. I have had the same problem and it turned out that adobe was messing it up.

Did this fix your problem I'm getting the same error
msg... but I'm connecting from work to home and both PCs
are XP Pro.

I am getting the same message and result. I am connecting from XP Pro
behine firewall at the office and connecting to XP Pro behind a LinkSys via
cablemodem. I have the same port 3389 opened up.
The odd thing is that it all used to work and it stopped working some
months back. I ahve not been able to connect from work since. I can do it
from within the home network, *and*, I believe, also from behind another
LinkSys and DSL modem at my brother's place.
I have all the latest service packs and patches on both machiens via
Windows Update.

Try changing firmware releases on the Linksys. The Linksys forum at
www.dslreports.com has a listing of the known issues for each firmware
revision and you can find a link to one of the good ones...
