Customize color palette in PPT Charts

Brad Zenner

Hi all. I'm using PPT 2002, and while building a template, I'd like to
define the chart fills and lines color palettes separately from the design
color scheme palette. So I go in and modify the colors in the chart (using
Tools - Options - Color, while in the chart) but those colors are only
applied to that chart. When I create a new chart, the color options revert
back to the default settings.

Can I customize the fills and lines in a chart and keep them as a default,
or am I doomed to modifying them for each chart?

Many, many thanks in advance

Hi Brad,

It is possible to create a 'custom' chart which will take on all your colour
and font styles as follows:

Create a chart in the style and format you want
Now select Chart | Chart Type and select the Custom tab
Select User-defined and Press the Add button
Give your chart a name and press OK
Now press the Set as Default button

That should do it.

MSGraph does not let you easily modify colors for charts, as you have
seen. But Excel will and there's a piece of code in the PPTFAQ that
will change an Excel color palette for you if you just substitute your
own RGB values to the code and run the macro.

Thanks TAJ, Trevor and Brian for the help. I find it so funny how even
though the office products are made by the same company, they don't have the
same features in them....Leaves me scratching my head sometimes.
Thanks again.

They're different programs written by different teams to do different things.
MS does a pretty good job of sharing features when it makes sense, but it's
natural that programs written to do different things do things differently.
