Critical downloads

Alvin Marshall Jr

I have downloaded all the critical downloads but two.
Security update 331953, 750 MB will not download. Windows
XP service pack 1 (Express) 1.9 MB reverts to 42,000 plus
KB and wants to take 3 plus hours to download. All the
other critical downloads downloaded without switching
from MB to KB. Is there a way to download 1.9 MB without
this switch over and long download time?

Hi Alvin,
The express installer is designed to work like that, the program to setup
Service Pack 1 is 1.9Mb and then downloads additional required update files
over the internet, normally about 40-50Mb. The other standalone installer
for SP1 is 143Mb. If you want you can get the SP1 update on CD-Rom (some
countries will offer this for free, but in the US/Canada there is a small
charge for the disc).

US/Can:

UK:

For Security update 331953 try going to
start > run and enter services.msc
In the services window find an entry called cryptographic services and
double click on it. Ensure its startup type is set to automatic and start
the service if its status is stopped.
You may also need rename a folder called catroot2 in
c:\windows\system32. If one of the catalog files in the catroot2 folder
becomes corrupt some updates will fail to install properly.

Hope that helps
Mark
