Guest

I have Windows XP. And I'm trying to install Creatures2.
Minimum System Requirements
CPU: Pentium 166
OS:Windows 95/98
RAM: 16 MB
Hard Drive: 120 MB
CD-ROM: 2x required
Video: SVGA 2MB Card

I've tried Compatibility Wizard, but that didnt work.
This is the message that appears when I click on Install:

16 bit Windows Subsystem
C:/WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/AUTOEXEC.NT
The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows
applications. Choose Close to terminate the application.

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!

Hi Tranquil,

You can solve that problem by replacing the file:

1. Browse to C:\WINDOWS\repair
Right-Click and Copy the file named: autoexec.nt *

2. Browse to C:\WINDOWS\System32
Right-Click in that window to Paste the file
(Answer yes if prompted to replace existing file)

* Note: If the file autoexec.nt doesn't exist on your system
right click the link below and select the "Save Target As.."
option to save the file in C:\WINDOWS\System32
http://mvps.org/nibblesnbits/AUTOEXEC.NT

Thanks Jimmy, that got me a step closer to playing my game.
Once I replaced the file, I was able to install Creatures2.
But now when I try to play Creatures2 this message pops up:

An Error was detected during startup. Creatures2 may not function correctly.
Please restart your machine and try again.

Then if I click the creatures icon again this message pops up:

Creatures2 appears to be already running. If this is not the case please
restart your machine and try again.

Oviously, I've tried restarting my computer many times, and it doesnt work.

Please HELP!!!!

Hi TranquilFlame,

If that error pops up again, open Task Manager and see if Creature2
is running in the list of processes. If it is, END TASK it and try again.

Hi Tranquil,

Try starting the game using an account with administrator privileges.

Hope that helps,
Jimmy.

Hi,

Let's try some basic troubleshooting. If the problem still persists
please post back and we'll try some more steps. Good luck! :)

1. To see if it's a software conflict: Temporarily disable Startup
programs one at a time, starting with Firewall, Antivirus, and ad
blockers using: http://new.jtsoft2001.com/windows/startup.php

You can lookup what a program does before you disable it here:
http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php

2. Run a virus scan at: http://housecall.antivirus.com Afterwards
Download & Run Spybot from: http://security.kolla.de to find any
Trojans, Adware, or Spyware which could clog up your system.

3. Click My Computer / Rightclick the Drive & Choose Properties
/ Run the "Disk Cleanup..." / Next Click the "Tools" Tab and run
the "Error-Checking" and "Defragmentation" utilities.

4. Go to the Windows Update site for everything under Critical and
Recommended: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com Some games
require a patch: http://www.avault.com/pcrl/patches_list.asp?letter=a

5. Update DirectX and your Chipset, Sound, &Video Drivers:
For all Video / DirectX / Game and Hardware Issues, I have a
Checklist of Solutions at: http://mvps.org/nibblesnbits/Video.html
