Help. I can't start the Windows Firewall/Internet
Connection Sharing (ICS) service on Local Computer. I can
no longer turn on Windows Firewall and share my internet
connection. When I try to start it, a message popup that
says "Error 5: Access denied"

What could be the problem? Could it be fixed?

Thank you.

Hi,

Go to Start/Administrative Tools/Services. Set these three to "Automatic":
Remote Access Connection Manager, Remote Access Auto Connection Manager,
Telephony.

If that doesn't help, run this edit: Ignore the name.

I've tried everything that you have told me. I guess it's
the Windows XP Servive Pack 2 Technical Preview version
that I've installed.

Thanks for helping.

Oh for goodness' sake! You left out the most important piece of
information in your original post - that you had installed *beta*
software. SP2 is completely experimental at this point as is clearly
stated on the webpage from which you got it. Restore your computer to
where it was before you installed SP2, either with System Restore (if
possible) or with the drive/partition image you made as a backup before
installing SP2 beta.

Good thing you didn't put it on a pc you need the firewall/ICS on:

Actually I didn't know it was the WinXP SP2 beta thats
causing this problem but when I realize it, I uninstall
SP2 and now my computer is back to normal.

Most welcome and yes there are 'many' changes in SP2 that have to do with
the ICF.
