cookies enabled but hotmail won't open stating cookies are not enabled

I have WIN 98 v. 2. I upgraded from IE 5.5 to 6.0. When
I went to my web based hotmail account it stated that the
site required cookies to be enabled. I changed my
settings to allow all session cookies AND allow all first
AND 3rd party cookies (from prompt even though my hotmail
account cookies were already installed.)
Upon trying again with hotmail ... same message. However
Mozilla had no problem. I uninstalled to the older vs
(5.5) .. no problem. Reinstalled 6.0 and again it states
that my cookies are disabled even though the settings are
set for accept all. I'd greatly appreciate some pointers
as many pages aren't showing correctly with the older
5.5. Thanks in advance, dorr

Is your system clock set to the right time and date? That will cause
problems such as you are experiencing. Set it correctly, time, date, time
zone, delete cookies, reboot.
