Converting a digital video cassette to MPEG File

I own an older JVC mini DV camera - I've got a library of footage captured
over the years on about 100 tapes. I'd like to convert some data from the
tapes to a digital format, and save on my hardrive as an MPEG file. I'm sure
this is a relatively easy process- does anyone have any advice for me- I have
no idea where to start.

If your main goal is to make DVD copies
of your VHS home movies...you don't need
a computer. A DVD Recorder may be worth
a look.
