Control Panel -> Network Connections is blank, Lost the taskbar icon showing network activity

On my Win XP Pro SP2 system, that is on wireless network I have lost
the little computer icon that sits in the task bar and shows network
activity with lighting up of its screen.

Not only that, I have no entry in the Control Panel -> 'Network
Connections' where I could access the properties of my network
connection.

The Wireless Network access of my system is however not affected, I
can access Internet normally.

Any ideas, as to how to restore the task bar icon and the entry for my
network in Network Connections.

In Network Connections, right click on the network connection and go to
properties. On the general tab, there's a check box to show an icon in the
notification area when connected - make sure it's checked and that should
show the icon.

If you can't see the network connection anymore in Network Connections, try
making a new one that's exactly like the old one and using that new one
instead.

If you'd prefer to try to get your old one back, then try disabling ICF
(Windows Firewall) to see if that makes any diffference. Sometimes the
firewall can have a weird effect on network connections. Frankly, I don't
understand how you can BE connected and not have the connection show up in
Network Connections - that shouldn't be possible (but making a new one might
take care of the problem for you).
