Content Advisor, How to reset Content advisor

G

Gerald Sacco

I recently enabled the Content Advisor in my IE browser.
It worked fine until i chose the option let web page come
through, whe the content advisor blocks a page it gives
you the option to select a path, or enter a password to
let page open etc. Well, since i selected this option, i
cannot get content advisor to work at all! It allows
every site no matter what!! Some content Advisor! LOL.

Things tried: Repairing IE, resetting web settings, back
leveling to 5.5, then reinstalling 6.0 SP1, still same
issue, content advisor seems to be broken. Well, i
located in the advisor settings area, the approved sites
tab, that there is a green check!, ok. I delete this
check and it goes away, but when i save settings and close
content advisor and re open content advisor settings in
the approved sites tab it still has this gren check! this
check is saying i guess, let all sites come through! not
what i want, any help would be greatly a[ppreciated, if no
response im going to reinstall my win2k system. Thanks

Jerry

http://www.pchell.com/support/contentadvisor.shtml
and do what it says.

and/or see here to disable it completely or toggle it:
http://osiris.978.org/~brianr/nopics-ie/

Here's the basic procedure, but refer to the link above if you need more

detail: Go to Start|Run and then enter "regedit" (without the quotes). and
then navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\>CurrentVersion\Policies\Ratin
gs

Select the "Key" entry in the right-hand pane and Delete it.
Now go to Registry|Exit to close Regedit.

Now you'll be able to disable Content Advisor by opening IE6 and going to
Tools|Internet Options|Content. Click on "Disable". Then click on "OK" when
you're asked for a password - don't enter anything. OK
out and CA is disabled.

Alternatively, see here:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm under
Content Advisor under "C" for info and specialized .vbs scripts to turn it
on and off and to modify specific settings.

If you wish to restore Content Advisor to its original condition (because of
your kids) you can obtain a Microsoft program (CA-Reset.exe - 89.5K) to do
this here:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/CA-Reset.exe
(listed on line 283) NOTE: Using CA-Reset will completely delete your
Approved List - everything starts like brand new, so consider this before
you use it.
