Why may this error occur when viewing properties of a service in the
Microsoft Management Console ?

Windows 2000 Server Service Pack 4

P.S. :

the services in question are Seagate Page Server and Seagate Web Component
Server.

SrvAny configured service

I'm seeing this errors "Configuration Manager: The specified device instance handle does not correspond to a present device." when double clicking on a service in the Windows 2003 Server Service Control Manager. I'm using SrvAny to run an vendor-supplied executable as a service.

The service starts properly. There are no unusual errors in the event log.

Probaly found an answer

I saw the same error and compared registry settings with a machine that did not have the error. It seems that (for my service) it needed a registry Key in

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\
with the name of LEGACY_xxxxx

I exported this key from the other machine
I changed the permissions on the ROOT (gave my account full control access)
Then I imported this key and removed the permissions again.

The problem seems to be solved now
