AMD Athalon 64 3200+
ATI Mobility Radeon Xpress 200 Series
AC97 Data Fax SoftModem with SmartCP
Realtex RTL 8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC

I am having a problem with my sound recently. I have not installed anything
or downloaded anything recently but my computer's Mute button light is
constantly on and the sound will not work (yes i have tried pushing the
button.) i tried updating the driver and it always says update failed. i
tried uninstalling and re-installing the device but still the same thing. in
the device Status area the message is : This device cannot start. (Code 10)
I have tried scaning for viruses and even Flashed the Bios. I have no more
ideas other than trying to completely re-format my computer which i have no
windows CD so dont really wanna do that. Please help me

It sounds like you have hardware failure. Software solutions
(reinstalling Windows) will not fix bad hardware. Since you have a
laptop, you can't fix this yourself. Contact HP tech support for
repair/replacement.

Wow, that's my problem too! I have the same model computer, OS, and processor, I have the same sound card, etc. The only difference in my issue is that my mute button isn't on. The sound simply doesn't work. It kinda comes and goes and it pleases. Anyone have any idea how to fix this?
