Computer starts to power up, then shuts down immediately

I have a problem with a PC I built about 3 years ago (PIII 800MHz,
Abit board (can't remember model), 256MB RAM, etc.). I don't have the
PC here right now, it is being shipped back to me.

The basic problem is: all of a sudden, the PC won't boot up any more.

It will start to power up, the monitor will flash/blink and then, it
immediately shuts itself off.

My first thought was that the CPU fan wasn't working, but it is
working fine.

My next thought was power supply. I swapped out a known working power
supply (350watt), same exact problem.

I am about out of ideas. Anyone???

Just the right time period for the infamous capacitor problem.

Sounds like the later state of failure. Check the capacitors when you get
it back for swelling and leaking. Search google and you will probably
find several thousand posts, including web links for pictures of failing
caps.

didn't realize the PC would act like that.

I am heading to the Abit web site, but any idea what the warranty is
on the Abit board????

My brother found his receipt, the board was purchased 7/6/2001.

So, it should be under warranty still (appears Abit has a 3 year
warranty)…..the board is a Abit SA-6 INTEL 815EP.

I hope it is the capacitor's!
