Completing Installation from XP SP2 to Vista Ultimate

I have completed the upgrade and the system has rebooted but after ~3 hours,
nothing comes onto the screen. I have rebooted to "restore mode" with no
success. When I try to bootup in SAFE mode, I receive a response saying that
installation cannot be completed in SAFE mode. So, I am back to a normal boot
but it is taking a very long time. The system is operating but nothing
displays on the screen. I have a number of software applications and external
devices/PCI boards in my configuration. Do I just wait and give it a longer
time or is there something wrong with the upgrade?

I was looking for other help since I cannot bootup and get onto the Internet
from the computer. Is my experience uncommon or is there another way to
fix/address the situation. Thanks ...

What are the external devices you have? Anything funny going on with
graphics cards & monitors?
You say the system is operating - can you tell this due to disk activity or
something else? Is the keyboard responding (Num Lock, Caps Lock lights going
on/off as they should?)

I have a USB Hub which connects in a printer and "dialup" modem. The graphics
adapter is on the motherboard. At this point, I have no signal to my monitor
which is about 4 years old. I had assumed that Microsoft would have drivers
for that. It is a Viewsonic 19" LCD. I am getting disk activity but it is
very slow. I had a "similar" problem a while back when I had to
reinstall/repair Windows XP. At that time I let the system run overnight and
a screen then popped up. Since this is my first time at an upgrade, I
wondered if the same thing could be happeing with Vista. Thanks for any help

It seems like it is your Graphics(amonget other things) . You say "ON" the
motherboard. Is that onboard, or a PCI, AGP slot?
You need 128MBs of Graphics to run Vista, and a compatible Graphics driver.

Also, you have had probs before you upgraded with XP.

You can't just upgrade a defective system, and all will be well again!

The system was fully operational before I attempted to upgrade. I was simply
recounting a previous situation with what appeared to be a similar problem.
The video is an AGP slot. I agree it sounds like the video is the issue. I
found some updated drivers for Vista but cannot get them loaded. When I try
to enter SAFE mode, I receive the response that the installation cannot be
completed in SAFE mode and to reboot the machine. I seem to be in a virtual
loop. What are my options?

May have determined the problem. I have a SCSI setup Raid 0. When I was
working in XP, I would have to insert a driver disk so that the OS could see
the drives. I am not given that option in the Vista Upgrade. I booted with
the DVD and tried to repair the system and it could not find the hard disk
(Adaptec SCSI). Any thoughts on how to get the driver installed or "read"
since it is already loaded??????
