Compatability assistant in vista ultimate won't let me install Nor

Compatability assistant will not allow me to install Symantec Internet
Security 2006 as it is not compatible.

Yet i need to have it installed to be able to go onto Symantec website to
get the 2007 update for vista to allow it to be compatible

So its a catch 22 situation

And i only uninstalled Internet Security 2006 when i upgraded from XP Pro to
Vista on Vista's reccommendations

So who can tell me either how to get the symantec product loaded, ie -
disable the compatability tool or get a patch or something in to vista first

am i going to have this problem with all the other programs vista didnt find
compatable??

otherwise i may as well roll back to xp pro

thanks

Steve:
Internet Security 2006 is not compatible with Vista. There is an
upgrade to Internet Security 2007 which is compatible. Have a great day.

YES I KNOW THAT MATE!!!!

Did you not read my question??

There is a fix to download from symantec to upgrade it to 2007, BUT it needs
to see 2006 loaded first.......................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Steve:
Sorry, I misread your post. It is very odd because NIS2006 won't
install on Vista but Symantec requires it to be installed first. Symantec
should have a better solution, so I would contact them.

YES I ALSO REALISED THAT!!!!

I went to symantec in the first instance...!

AS I SAID Symantec offer an update to take NIS 2006 to 2007 BUT need 2006
installed first which Vista will NOT allow me to do!!

I was looking for more of an advanced answer if anyone had a workaround or a
way of turming off Vista's Incompatability Error, temporarily??

I had the pre-VISTA version of NIS2007 installed and they offered to
update that to VISTA by downloading the trial version of NIS2007 and
when installing it to put in the KEY from the NIS 2007 pre-VISTA that I
was using one XP.

I don't know if that provides a way of getting around the difficulty.
Did you set up a Norton Account on your NIS 2006? If so key information
is in there and there is a way of reactivating when NIS suddenly says
it has expired long before the true date.

PS If you don't like my reply don't call me mate, ducks!

Did you download the specific VISTA compatible version of NIS2007?

If you have a valid KEY/subscription that has not expired what they
originally told you was to download the trial version of what is on
their website and install that after removing NISXXXX (the instsaller
will do that) and you enter the KEY of your old but unexpired version.

Now they have a specific site for downloading the VISTA compatible file
and you can say that you have NIS 2005 2006 or 2007. Every Norton
application I have loaded has offered to install a previous version if
it finds one.

The "key" is to use an unexpired KEY code on the new version.
