Color issue - Lack of red and green.

I've just built a new PC and I'm having an issue with color. There's a
significant lack of red and green. This is occured before I installed any
video card drivers and remained afterwards, and has not be cured by tweaking
of the Color Quality or other color settings. My monitor worked fine on my
old PC too.

The old difference is I have to use an extension to connect my monitor now.
It's from 2001 (though of high quality; Sony Trinitron) and it uses just
basic pins. My new NV 7900GT has these different plug-ins though and I had to
use an adaptor between the two.

I'm not sure if that's related.

Any guidance or advice it appreciated. Thanks.

If your 7900GT has a connector that matches the connector type on your old
PC, then don't use an adaptor, connect the monitor directly to the video
card. If none of the connectors on the new card don't match your monitor
connector then the adaptor may be the problem, make certain that the adaptor
(extension) is firmly connected at both ends.

What do you mean by basic pins?

I think I have to say the adapter is the most likely candidate here or the
extension.

Thanks you two, you were both likely right.

While I was waiting I decided to check the hook-up and after changing it,
the problem was fixed.

I found the technical names for the retailed tech as well.

My monitor uses a classic VGA cable and my 7900GT uses DVI-I.

I was connected into the left DVI-I slot with one of my VGA-to-DVI-I
"dangles" (connection adaptor or bridge).

Two dangles came with my GPU though, so I opened up the package for the
second one and tried it instead. I also plug it into the right DVI-I port
(over from the left).

Upon boot-up, the colors were fine.

I'll likely experiment later to try narrow it down, out of curiousity's
sake, but for now the broader explanation will suffice.

Thanks again; especially for such speedy responses. Take care.

Thanks for responding too, it helps others if the answer is posted so they
can search for it and of course it helps us to know for future reference.

Are you referring to a DVI-VGA adapter, They MAY be problematic. The
extra weight may pull the thing, and cause it to seat improperly, if
it's not firmly screwed in. Jiggle the connection, do normal colors
appear?

The adapters must be wired differently
You had to find the correct one.
