I have purchased, in retail, both Office 97 and Office
2002. I have the original disks.
I have tried unsuccessfully to install both onto my new XP
machine. Access 2002 works fine if I open it from the
menu, but tells me I don't have a valid license when it
runs from a file association of mdb.
Word 2002 tells me it can't find a font. (the Word problem
may be the result of my following Microsoft's description
of how to get rid of the Access error message by renaming
a certain font and then reinstalling the software. It
didn't work, but caused problems with Word 2002)
Word 97 also has many problems and often crashes, losing
my work - especially when I convert a file to RTF, which I
must do each week for one of my clients.
Has anyone successfully gotten Office 97 (Word, Access,
and Excel) and Office 2002 (Word, Access, and Excel) to
run on the same machine in XP? I want the file extensions
to be associated with the OLDER program - but can't seem
to get that to work. (I have selected the older program
in the File Type tab in Folder Options, but Word 2002,
with an error message about the font, comes up regardless
of what it says in there.)
I suspect I will have to edit the registry, but I don't
know what keys, nor what it should say to allow
coexistance of Office 97 AND Office 2002.
(If you are wondering why I need both, I have clients with
both and I often have to walk them through doing a task.
Plus, I prefer the older versions - but sometimes need the
newer to read files from others.)
Any help that you could give would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks-In-Advance
