Cluster - how to create a Physical Disk resource on a ONE drive server?

T

Tony P

Hello,

I'm running W2K Advanced Server, sp4, with Cluster Service installed. I
have
2 hard drives.

Disk0: C partition, 4 GB NTFS, D partition, 4 GB NTFS
Disk1: E partition, 8 GB NTFS

Following some online documents, I was able to install cluster service with
the
cluscfg -L option to create one with a localquorum on the C drive.

When the cluster was up and running, I created an IP Address resource and a
Network Name resource. No problems.

I installed Exchange 2000 Enterprise Edition. When the install completed
successfully,
it asked for a reboot. This I did.

The next step is installing an Exchange System Attendant resource. But this
requires a
Physical Disk resource first to be created in Cluster Administrator.

I tried to do this, but no disks showed up.

I also tried stopping the Cluster server and changing the startup properties
for the service
to have /priv debug=1 to run it in debug mode. It starts, but it still
won't let me add a physical
disk resource.

Looking at another online article, it said to look under

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\ClusDisk\Parameters\Signatures on the
node.

Doc said, "if signatures are listed there, these disks cannot be added into
the cluster
because the cluster service believes these disks have already been
configured into the
cluster configuration".

But I looked at this key, and there are no signatures here.

We are not using SHARED SCSI drives because we're going to use Veritas
Storage Replicator
to replicate Exchange to a remote server with the same config as node1.

Thank you for any help you can offer

Tony

Hi Tony,
You are probably having problems because for cluster services to work
correctly you have to have some kind of shared external storage for the two
nodes to share. The configuration you are describing does not appear to
show this, however, if I have misunderstood and you do have shared storage
is it shared SCSI or a SAN?
