Changing Folder View For All Folders

R

Robert Byer

I'm wanting to know if there is a way to have the folder
view list files and folders in, let's say "list" format
instead of the defaule XP Pro "tiles" format.

I know I can do that for EACH folder, but I'm looking for
a way to set it ONCE so that ALL folders and windows
are displayed as lists.

Thanks.

Robert;
I know how to make all of them a particular view. How do you make
individual folders STAY the way you set them?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi,

Windows remembers 400 folder settings. When that number is reached some
settings aren't retained any longer. You can change this to 8000 by adding
this edit to the registry.

Run this edit, then reset your preferred folder options:

Increase Folder View Options Limit: (Line 2)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

Thank you for your reply. You mean this one:

Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. I only wanted to change
settings on about four folders. I just now double checked all the keys,
values and data. Everything matches the above listings.
BTW, I have downloaded and used several fixes, tweaks, whatever from
your site. Handy, I must say. As a side note, I have balloon tips disabled
(but they still show up) and I posted those registry settings and all Ramesh
could say after those were the Registry settings he would look for,
was,"Weird." I used your balloondisable.reg and disableall.reg to do that.
Something here is definitely screwy.
Any more advice would be most welcome. Spellchecker was sure fun. ;-)
Thank you, again.

Hi Wesley,

I mean, the .reg fix from kelly is actually the correct one. Not sure why
the registry modification does not turn off the balloon tips. Another
instance is the tray icons display. I'm unable to clear the past icons even
after deleting the past icon streams in registry. This is something weird.

Explorer reads past icon when it starts and administers it in memory, then writes it when shutting down. Therefore you must delete it while explorer is not running. Explorer is the program that makes the desktop, start menu, and taskbar.

It's not hard coded. Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete, End all explorer.exe on the process tab. Delete the key then.

Thanks David,

i have tried deleting the values using that method also. Did not help.
another method I tried is to import the hive and delete it. Dint help. Looks
like the value is hardcoded somewhere.

Ramesh,

The balloon/hover tips cannot be turned off for the Quick Launch Bar,
Taskbar nor the Notification Area as the others can. My edit covers ALL
that 'can' be disabled.

As for the Notification Area Past Items depending on how long ago you
downloaded the script, you would need to follow the directions below. If
you download the updated version (8/22), it will kill the process for you.

Remove Past Items From the Notification Area (Line 53)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Once done, Open Task Manager, click the Processes tab, click Explorer.exe,
and then click End Process. In Task Manager, click File, click New Task,
type explorer, and then click OK.

The "Past Items" values are written to the registry as part of the user log
off process. This is why it is necessary to "crash" Explorer, so the system
will re-read the new values, and not retain the old ones that are already in
memory from a reboot.
