Change default "Save As" Location for Mail Attachments

When I want to save a mail attachment onto my hard drive, I always have to
navigate thru the same series of file locations. Can I change the default
"Save to" location that shows up? Thanks.

Hi,

Windows Mail should remember the last saved location. Is that not the case in your system?

See if you can alter the attachment path in the registry manually.

1. Close Windows Mail

2. Click Start, type regedit.exe in the search box and press {ENTER}

3. Navigate to:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Mail]

4. Edit the value data for "Save Attachment Path" accordingly. (Example: D:\Mail\Attachments)

5. Exit the Registry Editor

Hi again.
I navigated to the registry entry for Windows Mail but there is no line item
for "Save Attachment Path". Thanks.

If the "Save Attachment Path" value is missing, you may have to create one (Edit menu - New - String value)

The registry setting edit does not work if you are using the "Save As" function when right-clicking on the attachment name. It will always default to C:\Users\username\Documents.

It will remain sticky until you close Windows Mail, but then you have to re-navigate the next time you Save As.
