Change alignment of text in placeholder

Another question (sorry)....

In the text placeholder, the text is formatted into nested bullets, with
each succeeding line indented a little more. I would like to "convert" this
to centered, non-bulleted text. When I try, all is well, except that the
indentation causes the "centered" lines to not center correctly.

I have been attempting this by highlighting the placeholder outline, then
clicking on the "Center Text" button, and clicking to turn off bulleting.
This centers the first line, but each succeeding line is still offset a
little more to the right. The same thing happens if I try selecting each
line individually.

I know I can just draw a text box, but I'd like to use the placeholder. I'd
like to be able to do this on individual slides, and sometimes do it on the
slide master.

Any ideas?

Thanks again!!

Hi,

From what I can work out, you are doing it right. Just because the different
levels are offset in the Master, they will come out right in an actual
slide. Try it on a slide and you will see it all centred OK.

These different, offset levels in the Master are based on text hierarchies.
So, if you moved text from heading one to heading two, it would change,
based on the offset text in the master. Make sense??? <g>.

My suggestion is to:
1. Go into the master slide and remove the bullet formatting from the first
line in the bullet list (either Format>Bullet Numbering, or use the bullet
icon to turn it off)
2. Delete the other lines in the Master slide (bullets 2 through 5)
3. Go back to the first line and re-format the hanging indent (in the ruler)
by dragging the triangle on the bottom all the way to the left to line up
with the top triangle in the ruler)

You should now have a master slide that is basically formatted like normal
text box. You can center the text in the master or return to normal view
and do it on each slide as you see fit.

That's the best work-around I know to remove bullet formatting.

Even better, copy the entire text to the clipboard, insert a new slide and
turn off bullets for the text placeholder using the icon on the formatting
toolbar.

Then choose Edit | Paste Special and opt to paste Unformatted Text.

You can also try removing the formatting and do changes in the masters - but
that's somewhat more complicated a process.
