CD and DVD Device drivers

Has anyone ever encountered problems after downloading the
nvida (sp?) update? (latest media update from microsoft).
Since we downloaded, our computer no longer recognizes the
CD and DVD device drivers. We are on an HP Pavilion. The
accompanying operating system was Windows ME. We purchased
and downloaded Windows 2000 separately because ME has too
many problems. We are unable to obtain Windows 2000
components from the web, and of course we can't get help
from our Windows CDs either. Any ideas would be much
appreciated.

See my post from 27.10.2003. Maybe it is somehow related with Yours, maybe
not.
