Capturing analog video via DV Camera

I thought I had found a way to capture analog video
without buying an adaptor. I connected the analog device
via S-video to my camera (Sony DCR-TRV50E), and my camera
via FireWire to the PC. The analog video is shown in the
viewing pane of WMM - Fine! Trying to start the capture,
the WMM activates the DV Camera in playback mode and the
input from the analog device is gone. Does anyone now a
way to disable the automatic control of the DV
Camera?

Microsoft released a utility to help you 'pass-thru' your analog video... there's a link to it on the Problem Solving > Checklist page of my website. It's the 3rd paragraph in the section about Limitations
