can't update, database or object is read only

I have a multi user point of sale aplication for access 97.
only recently has this error been appearing.
It has rendered the application unusable.
I open a dynaset on a linked table and when I invoke the
edit method on the recordset I get the error...
Can't Upate, database or object is read only.
Is this simmilar to the problem in Microsoft Knowledgebase
article 165352 were this error occurs with a snapshot ?
I'm desperate for a solution, any help is greatly
appreciated.

Double check to make sure the database wasn't set to Read only; right click
| Properties. Also, check the permission settings if you are on a networked
machine.
