cant sync mp3 player with media Player

when i connect my mp3 player to the pc, and try to set up a sync with media
player i get this error message:

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. If the file is on another
computer, verify that you are connected to the network. If you typed a path,
verify that it is correct. If the problem persists, the server might not be
available.

I clicked on further help and was told to enable all network protocols but
that did no good. what is wrong? it seems like a settings issue rather than a
hardware problem

Don't bother with the Sync feature in WMP. Use Windows Explorer where
you can copy and paste the music files directly from your harddrive to the
MP3 player. It is faster and very accurate. Make sure your MP3 player is
listed in My Computer as a device with removable storage first.
